Baldur's Gate 3: PS4 vs. PS5, What's the Difference?

Baldur's Gate 3 is finally out of early access and available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. But which version should you get?

In this article, we'll take a look at the differences between the two versions of the game to help you decide.

The biggest difference between the PS4 and PS5 versions of Baldur's Gate 3 is the graphics. The PS5 version runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, while the PS4 version is capped at 1080p and 30 frames per second.

The PS5 version also has improved textures, lighting, and shadows. This makes the game look much more realistic and immersive on the PS5.

The PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 also runs much smoother than the PS4 version. There is no noticeable frame rate drops or stuttering on the PS5, while the PS4 version can be a bit choppy at times.

This is especially true in areas with a lot of action, such as combat. The PS5 version handles these areas with ease, while the PS4 version can struggle.

Loading Times

Loading times are also much faster on the PS5. This is a big improvement, as loading times can be quite long on the PS4.

The PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 also supports some features that are not available on the PS4, such as:

  • Haptic Feedback: The DualSense controller's haptic feedback adds a layer of immersion to the game. You can feel the impact of your attacks and the resistance of the environment as you move around.
  • Adaptive Triggers: The DualSense controller's adaptive triggers allow you to feel the tension of your bowstring as you draw it back. This makes archery feel much more realistic.
  • 3D Audio: The PS5's Tempest 3D AudioTech makes the game sound much more immersive. You can hear sounds coming from all around you, which helps you to better track enemies and stay aware of your surroundings.

If you have a PlayStation 5, I highly recommend getting the PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3. The improved graphics, performance, and features make it a much better experience.

However, if you don't have a PlayStation 5, the PS4 version is still a good game. It just doesn't look as good or run as smoothly as the PS5 version.

Here are some additional things to consider when choosing between the two versions of Baldur's Gate 3:

  • Price: The PS4 version of Baldur's Gate 3 is typically cheaper than the PS5 version.
  • Availability: The PS5 version of Baldur's Gate 3 is still in high demand, so it may be harder to find than the PS4 version.
  • Your personal preference: Ultimately, the best version of Baldur's Gate 3 for you will depend on your individual preferences and budget.
